The Bird House Garden Center's large 2-acre plant yard is stocked full of high quality plants. We carry interesting and unusual varieties that you will not see elsewhere, as well as old favorites that have brightened New England properties for years. You will enjoy walking through our yard to see the display gardens, garden art and statuary, bird feeding stations, and perhaps relax on our outdoor furniture.

We work with only the top growers in the Northeastern U.S. These local growers produce beautiful healthy plants that are New England hardy. Our plant care staff keeps the plants healthy and fresh, and we hand water all plants to provide nourishment and prevent the development of fungal and bacterial diseases. We take plant health seriously - the plants you buy at The Bird House Garden Center are guaranteed.

  • Ornamental, Shade, and Fruit Trees - over 50 varieties
  • Shrubs - over 230 varieties
  • Perennials - over 500 varieties
  • Annuals - over 300 varieties
  • Vines - over 20 varieties
  • Groundcovers - over 50 varieties
  • Roses - over 25 varieties
  • Ornamental Grasses - over 20 varieties
  • Veggies, Herbs, and Fruits - over 60 varieties

Native Species - We highly recommend planting native species when appropriate. Native plants are hardier and more pest and disease resistant than many non-natives. Our local wildlife is dependent on native plants, and adding natives to your property will attract more birds and beneficial insects.

Bird & Butterfly Plants - Attract avian wildlife to your yard by planting our selected nectar, seed, fruit, and berry plants. We can help you choose the right varieties for your new bird and butterfly gardens.

Woodland Plants - Our region's landscape has changed in the last 100 years. Former pasture and farmland has reverted to forest. A wooded yard can present challenges for gardeners and landscapers. We stock many interesting and rewarding woodland plants for your own woodland gardens.

Deer Resistant Plants - It may be hard to believe, but there are many landscape plants that deer prefer not to eat. We can help you choose the right ones for your yard.

Container Garden Plants - Many people don't have the space/time/energy to plant large outdoor gardens. Smaller container gardens add beauty to decks, patios, porches, or front steps. We stock a wide variety of annuals, perennials, grasses, shrubs, and ornamental trees that are perfect for container gardens. We also carry a great selection of planting containers (pottery, wood, synthetic) in our Garden Shop.

Cary Award Plants - The Cary Award is a program to promote outstanding plants for New England gardens. Each year since 1997, the Worcester County Horticultural Society, along with a panel of other regional experts, has selected woody shrubs, trees, and vines for this distinction. The winners are chosen for their hardiness, uniqueness, and ability to extend the New England growing season with notable winter features. Preference is given to plants that are currently unusual and underused in New England landscapes. Over 30 plants have been recognized with the Cary Award. The Bird House currently stocks over 15 of these outstanding plants.

White Flower Farm – A favorite of gardeners since 1950. Until recently, the amazing plant varieties grown by White Flower Farm were available only through the mail-order catalog. Now, The Bird House Garden Center is an authorized partner of White Flower Farm and we sell the “best of the best” from the catalog.

Pink Ribbon Plants – Support breast cancer research by adding these beautiful plants to your gardens. Ten percent of the cost of each plant is donated to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

Easy Elegance Roses – New England winters can be tough on roses but Easy Elegance Roses change all that. These “own-root” roses (grown on their own roots instead of being grafted) are much hardier and easier to grow than traditional hybrid tea roses. They are available in a range of stunning colors.
